Genomic Literature Knowledge Base

TECHNOLOGY NUMBER: 2025-529
Technology No. 2025-529

OVERVIEW

A biomedical knowledge-graph platform that standardizes terms and extracts validated relationships from PubMed to improve AI reliability.

  • Delivers explainable, citation-backed biomedical answers and analytics—reducing hallucinations while accelerating target discovery, evidence review, and decision-making.
  • Applications:  Drug discovery, target validation, biomarker prioritization, clinical evidence synthesis, RAG for biomedical copilots, knowledge management.

BACKGROUND

Biomedical innovation depends on quickly turning published evidence into decisions. Yet the largest resource—PubMed—remains mostly unstructured text, making it hard to compute over “what is known,” compare findings across studies, or build trustworthy AI assistants. Teams often rely on manual literature review, which is slow, expensive, and incomplete, or on narrow, manually curated databases that cover only parts of biology and lag behind new publications. Meanwhile, large language models can sound confident while inventing facts or citations, creating unacceptable risk in R&D, clinical research, and regulatory-facing workflows. Even when retrieval-augmented generation is used, results can be shallow because biomedical terms differ across ontologies and repositories (synonyms, duplicate IDs, missing mappings), so relevant evidence is missed or mislinked. The market needs a scalable way to unify biomedical terminology and convert literature into computable, traceable knowledge.

INNOVATION

This technology builds a Genomic Literature Knowledge Base (GLKB) using a modular framework that (1) reconciles biomedical vocabularies across major ontologies into a controlled, de-duplicated term set, (2) aligns and integrates multiple curated biomedical repositories into a unified network, and (3) converts PubMed literature into structured knowledge by extracting entities, relationships, and multi-entity events, then linking them back to standardized terms. The result is a machine-readable knowledge graph with strong provenance: users can trace answers and associations to the underlying PubMed records and connected curated sources. GLKB also supports semantic retrieval that strengthens RAG pipelines, improving accuracy and reducing hallucinations in biomedical question answering.

Game-changing commercial uses: (i) pharma/biotech target discovery and evidence triage, (ii) AI copilots for life-science and clinical research workflows, (iii) knowledge-graph analytics platforms for translational and omics interpretation.
